The Triplets of Belleville

I should have seen it coming. I have recently discovered the amazing genre of foreign film. The movie that introduced me was The Triplets of Belleville. it is a Belgium-Quebec-France co produced film. It is a animated surreal adventure film and was the first film written and directed by Sylvain Chomet. The movie uses very little dialog and the story is told through song (in French) and pantomime. The animation is hilariously exaggerated and as an American seeing the obese statue of liberty holding a cheeseburger had me snorting Dr. Pepper out my nose. I will definitely be heading down to blockbuster to look for more foreign animated films.

cloudy with a chance of meatballs

I watched cloudy with a chance of meatballs last night and have to say I wasn't impressed. The story line and animation was good but, at no point did I laugh out loud. This was a good movie to rent but I would definitely not pay to see it in the movie theater. Some books are comedic and that is true here but much of that comedy just didn't quite make it on screen.

Titanic

I watched Titanic this weekend, and granted it is an older movie, It is one that is timeless. I think it earned every award it earned. The cinematography was stunning for the technology at the time.The story leaves little to be desired and a lasting impression as does Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. I have high hopes for Avatar.
